Amazon Fire TV Stick with new Alexa Voice Remote launched in India

16 January 2019 4

Amazon has finally introduced Fire TV Stick with all-new Alexa Voice Remote in India. This new version was originally debuted alongside the Fire TV Stick 4K last year. It should be noted that the 4K version of the Fire TV Stick is already available in India. Both versions come with Alexa Voice Remote with the major difference being the 4K support on the 4K version.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick essentially remains the same as the previous one but it is the accompanying remote which has received an upgrade. The newly introduced voice remote is now powered by Alexa Skills. It means instead of using the remote with basic voice commands, users will be able to make use of Amazon Skills directly from their TV. It can also be used for controlling Echo devices and any other Alexa-powered devices.

Another benefit of the new remote is that it can be used as a universal remote. It means users will not have to keep using both TV remote and Fire TV Stick remote. This new Fire TV remote is now capable of controlling the TV itself as well. Amazon has made use of Bluetooth, multi-directional infrared, and cloud-based service to make this universal operation capability possible.

As for the Fire TV Stick itself, it is capable of streaming content in 720p and 1080p at up to 60fps. Under the hood, it has a quad-core chipset clocked at 1.3GHz. There is 8GB of onboard storage for installing apps. It also features Dolby Audio support for a better audio output.

Amazon has priced the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote for Rs. 3,999 in India. For those already have the Fire TV Stick, they can choose to buy only the remote for Rs. 1,999. There is also limited time offer where the remote can be purchased for Rs. 999 which is a discount of 50%.

I saw a commercial on an Indian TV channel in the past 2 days. Just a glimpse. So, can't really say if it was the Amazon Fire TV Stick. But the ad is there for sure.
