10 July 2019
We know that Amazon Prime Day 2019 is all set to kick off on July 15th i.e this coming Monday, but eBay is planning to crash Amazon's party with its own sale called Crash Sale. It will be bringing deals on a wide range of products with a focus on electronics, sporting goods, and the latest fashion among others.
In an official announcement, eBay said that there will be deals with up to 50% off on various brands including the likes of Apple, Samsung, KitchenAid, and Garmin. While there will be usual deals coming up, eBay will release some special deals if Amazon's website crashes once Prime Day starts. This is related to last year's Prime Day incident where website crashed right after the sale began. It is also the reason the sale has been named Crash Sale which is a direct jibe at Amazon.
Since there is only a weekend to go for the sale, eBay has also released a minute ad spot to promote the same. The commercial video shows a father-daughter conversation where the daughter is named Alexa (named after Amazon Alexa). Even the conversation has been represented in a way that a user is talking with the assistant. The video describes Prime Day as a made-up holiday from Amazon and that it has "deals on a bunch of random stuff nobody really wants".
Alexa goes on say that the only good thing about this year's Prime Day is eBay's Crash Sale. eBay has also taken a direct shot at Alexa's always listening issue where it was found to be listening to people talking without them being aware of the same. It is clear that eBay is all set for a head-on battle with Amazon. It will be interesting if it will be able to create any noticeable dent in Amazon's Prime Day sales.
