Amazon's new Kindle edition is specifically meant for kids

08 October 2019 0

Amazon Kindles are undoubtedly one of the best eBook readers that you can get in the market. Since releasing the first-ever model, there have been various Kindle editions aimed at different types of readers. And now, Amazon has released a new Kindle edition named Kindle Kids Edition which is, as you must have guessed, is meant for kids.

The Amazon Kindle Kids Edition has the latest entry-level Kindle along with a few extras to complete the bundle. These extras include a protective case, a one-year free subscription to FreeTime Unlimited, and a free replacement guarantee for two years in case the device breaks. The bundle has been priced at $110 which is $20 more than the cost of the Kindle itself if bought separately.

This whole package is the same as what Amazon has been offering with Fire tablets kids editions for years. While these tablets also include video-based content and video games, Kindle Kids will be limited to eBooks for reading purposes. But if someone happens to have both the Kindle and Fire tablets, the same subscription will work on both of them. The service is priced at $4.99 per month once the free subscription expires but if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can get it for $2.99 per month.

Some other Kindle Kids Edition features are:

  • Achievement Badges: Kids can earn badges like Book Worm and Over Achiever when they make progress toward pre-defined goals.
  • Easy Discovery: With enhanced browsing and search, kids can locate titles without the exact spelling. And with smart recommendations, kids can find books related to the genres, authors, and characters they like.
  • Word Wise: Kids are automatically provided short and simple definitions above difficult words, so they can keep reading with fewer interruptions.
  • Dictionary: If kids come across a difficult word, they can select the word to look up the definition via the built-in Kindle dictionary.
  • Vocabulary Builder: Words looked up in dictionaries are automatically added to Vocabulary Builder and turned into flashcards for future review and learning.
  • Kid-friendly Wallpaper: A unique set of lock screen wallpapers designed specifically for kids are included.

As mentioned in the beginning, you can get Amazon Kindle Kids Edition for $110 with an option to choose from four case designs. It is already available for preorders on the Amazon website and will start shipping on October 30th.
