Samsung is rumored to have a sequel to the Galaxy Fold in the preparation and the suspect on its development has gotten stronger further. First, we learned about its name which is tentatively dubbed Galaxy Fold 2 and now very intrinsic information on the device has surfaced.
Ross Young, founder of Display Supply China Consultants reported that the device might come with an under-display camera, something which has not been implemented yet on the commercial level. The codename of the device is said to be Project Champ and it could arrive with a 7.7-inch display (when fold-out) and it will be a bit more expensive than the more portable clamshells.
Young shared about the possibility last month but his tweet got picked by some tipsters in the industry only now. Aju News, a Korean outlet later also made a report on the same.
An under-display camera indicates Samsung is aiming at bringing a completely bezel-free display on a foldable device. This means the era without those uglier notches, holes, and even the pop-up mechanisms is about to start.
Oppo and Xiaomi were the first to showcase this new tech last year. But it seems Samsung would outplay everyone by launching the Galaxy Fold 2. According to a top tipster Max Winebach, the Galaxy Fold 2 could launch around the same time as the Galaxy Note 20, which means it could launch around August or September, which comes out to be the second half of the year.
Are we finally moving to the next major solution to the bezel-free profile? We can’t tell now but we look forward to more details.
