Samsung Galaxy S20 users may soon enjoy 1440p panel at 120Hz

19 February 2020 0

Samsung Galaxy S20 series is an upper-class smartphone range with some interesting features and capabilities that weren’t available in the phones from previous generations. The company has leveled up even further this year by introducing some top-notch specifications, including bigger batteries, better cameras, and yes smoother display.

Samsung offers the 120Hz refresh rate for an even better experience but this feature comes with a condition. The 120Hz refresh can’t be used with the full 1440p resolution. This isn’t a big problem as the experience offered by the device is still smoother and there is nothing to be complained about. But those who are shelling out big would naturally like to have the highest settings enabled and hence the highest refresh rate at the highest resolution.

Well, it appears that Samsung is fulfilling this need as well. According to XDA Developers’ Max Weinbach, Samsung will soon enable the 120Hz on the highest setting, which is the 1440p resolution or the WQHD+. According to Weinbach, Samsung is currently optimizing the software and should release the update in the next 1-3 months if all goes well.

Enabling the 120Hz refresh rate on the highest resolution setting isn’t as easy as switching on a toggle. Samsung had to maintain this trade-off for overall better performance because high refresh rate screens take a lot of energy and need processing power to move all the pixels. That’s the reason, Samsung had to set you at 60Hz only for the 1440p resolution. But now, Samsung is apparently working in this area as well where it can offer you a better combination.

Oppo Find X2 is already garnering much attention as the company’s VP has confirmed the device would feature the highest refresh rate on the highest resolution. In such a scenario, Samsung would need to recheck certain things to keep its loyal followers happy and that’s what the company is now said to be doing as well.

Let’s wait and see when this feature actually comes to the Galaxy S20 devices.
