Pixel phones now pin apps to Android's share menu post March security update

03 March 2020 0

Google’s March security update is out and it brings along an interesting feature for the Pixel phones. The update adds the ability to pin four apps in the share menu for a quick and easy transfer or sharing of stuff between contacts. The feature that was first discovered in the Android 11 Developer Preview 1 has been enabled in the Android 10 only. So, the Pixel owners need not wait for months for this handy addition.

To pin your favorite apps, just bring up the share menu and long-press on the app icon that you want to pin and then select the “Pin” option. You can pin a maximum of four apps in the share menu and note that these pinned apps will be available in a row below the Direct Share panel.

This feature comes really handy as you would be able to share the media using your favorite apps faster than before. The four apps you chose to pin will always stay on the top on the menu.

According to 9to5Google, if you try to pin the fifth app to the share menu, Android won’t unpin anything and will rather replace the last-selected pinned app from the list with the new one. So, in-case, you want to replace the app from the share menu, you can do it this way.

It is assumed that non-Pixel phones will receive this ability with the Android 11 update later this year. This means the users of other brands’ models would need to wait a little longer to get this faster access option on their phones
