WhatsApp self-destructing messages feature may soon come for individual chats

16 March 2020 0

WhatsApp is reportedly testing self-destructing messages feature that would allow the users to delete new messages after a given time period. The feature is said to have appeared in WhatsApp beta 2.20.83/2.20.84 but it is still under development.

As the name implies, the messages will destruct on their own after they complete a specific time that the user has selected. Users can choose how long new messages will last before they are deleted from both sides. According to what has been spotted by WABetaInfo, you can choose from a number of options – 1hour, 1 day 1 week, 1 month, and even a year.

This means the self-destructing feature on WhatsApp works differently than the one available on Telegram. You first start a Secret Chat with a contact on Telegram and then set self-destruct timer from 1 second to 1 week. Compared to Telegram, WhatsApp is offering big window time for the new messages to get self-destructed. But, the shorter Self-Destruct Timer is helpful when you want to show something to someone for a shorter period of time, like any evidence.

There are also other things associated with Telegram’s Self-Destruct Timer - one is, sending a notification to the user on the other end when a screenshot is taken. Also, the messages in Secret Chats can't be forwarded to other users and have a self-destruct timer. It is yet to be seen if WhatsApp has such any other perks associated with self-destructing messages as well.

Note that back in October 2019, the same feature came to notice but it was reported for WhatsApp Group messages. Well, the feature is still not yet available for the Group chats, but it is good to note that WhatsApp is working on this feature and aware that users do need such kind of functionality in their chats where new messages get automatically deleted after an assigned time period.

It is also unknown when the self-destruct message feature will arrive in WhatsApp for the individual chats but it is good to note that the company has been working on this feature already.

You can become the WhatsApp beta member if you want to test this new feature whenever it arrives.
