Nokia phones maker launches global data-roaming SIM card

20 March 2020 0

HMD Global, the company that is widely known for making Nokia Android phones has just stepped into a new forte, something you might not have expected. The company announced Nokia 8.3 5G, 5.3, 1.3, and 5310, and during the same digital-only event, it also introduced a global roaming data SIM card.

The SIM card has especially been launched for the people who travel internationally a lot and require a solid option for data-only plans. The aim is simple, which is to remove the hassle of buying local SIM cards when you travel to different countries. Ahead of the announcement, HMD Global silently added the HMD Connect app to the Play Store, revealing most of the things about the same.

The SIM card has been launched with some bundled plans for you to choose from according to your requirement, though the price of the SIM card remains the same irrespective of the country you plan to use it. This global roaming data SIM card works in 120 countries, across more than 600 networks, and has been divided into 3 zones. These three zones offer different data packs for different countries.

In Zone 1, the countries get 1GB of data, 500MB in Zone 2, and 250MB in Zone 3. You can head over to the Coverage page to know in which zone your country falls. Each bundle of data is valid for 14 days since activation and you can pay for more data as you go further. You can get additional data for 5 but this doesn’t extend the 14-day validity period of your package.

The HMD Connect app for Android will be used to activate your SIM and manage your bundles. You can get a real-time glimpse at your data usage, like how much data you have consumed and how much is left. The app will also tell you how many days are left and the number of SIM cards activated with the app. You can add more cards, activate them, and delete any inactive ones. The size of the HMD Connect app is 9.6MB and it works on phones running Android 4.4 and above.

The price of the SIM starter kit is €19.95 for the first one and €10 for any additional SIMs you may require. These kits already include one bundle, so you get up to 1GB of data right out of the box when you start using the SIM. The further price structure works according to the data packages you opt for. Your first one will run at €9.95, you get 1GB data and you can upgrade further after 14-days at just €5. The SIM starter kits start shipping on March 30 and will take 2-7 business days to arrive.
