Google Camera Go app with portrait mode for Android Go devices announced

20 March 2020 0

Google has announced a new camera app named Camera Go for Android Go devices. The app has been developed with a focus on optimized performance on these devices with entry-level specifications. It comes with a clean and simple user interface to help first-time smartphone users and also looks for available storage space.

Android Go devices usually have 1GB of RAM and 8GB/16GB onboard storage which is not sufficient for handling modern apps. This is the reason Google has released "Go" versions of commonly used apps like YouTube, Maps, Gmail, and Files. There are currently over 100 million Android Go users and a good camera app was one of the commonly requested features.

Other than being light-weight and simple to use, Camera Go app supports portrait mode to help users click photos with blurred background. The app UI has a dedicated Portrait Mode option available within the viewfinder. The best part of the app is that it actively tracks how much photos and video storage space is left. If there is insufficient space, it will suggest ways to clear storage for clicking more shots and videos.

The Camera Go app is currently available on the newly unveiled Nokia 1.3 Android Go smartphone. It will be seen on upcoming devices as well but it seems unlikely that existing devices will get it.
