It has exactly been a year since we first heard about Apple's plan to cancel the AirPower project but now, there is a new leak claiming that it is not exactly dead. Jon Prosser, a well-known YouTuber, has cited his sources to tweet that Apple has started working on AirPower at least internally.
Prosser claims that Apple has developed new AirPower prototypes that are being built from the ground-up. The team is working on re-engineering coils to dissipate heat more effectively. It is worth noting that Apple's inability to manage heat dissipation was said to be one of the reasons responsible for its decision to scrap the project completely.
The leak further mentions that while Apple is testing multiple prototypes, none of them is capable of charging Apple Watch. This is a huge setback for the company as it introduced AirPower in 2017 as a wireless charging mat that can be used to charge an iPhone, AirPods, and an Apple Watch at the same time. Additionally, Apple Watch is the world's best-selling smartwatch since its debut days which is another reason that it cannot be neglected completely.
Lastly, the tweet mentions that even though the internal development has begun, there is no surety that it will transform into an actual product. We will suggest you take this new claim with a pinch of salt and wait for further reports and information before forming an opinion about the release.
