OnePlus has started talking about some of the key features of the OnePlus 8 series that it will announce on April 14th. Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, has confirmed that the next-gen flagships will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.0 storage. He made the announcement in a "Deep Dive" forum post where he talked about how these hardware components justify the "Lead with Speed" tagline.
In typical OnePlus style, the post starts by talking about how providing a "smooth and fast" user experience has always been a priority for the brand. This is why they put a lot of thought into selecting hardware components as well as software optimization for an overall better experience.
Lau says that Snapdragon 865 chipset will offer 25% improved performance and 25% better GPU performance while also being 25% more battery efficient. The power consumption during video recording will be reduced by 16% but video noise pixel processing will be better by 40%. It is further said to be twice as powerful in AI processing as compared to the predecessor.
Qualcomm's latest flagship processor will be coupled with LPDDR5 RAM. These RAMs are undoubtedly faster than LPDDR4 ones with a claimed transfer rate of up to 6,400Mbps. It delivers such high performance while being generous on the battery life as there is 45% lower power consumption.
The OnePlus 8 series will further have UFS 3.0 storage standard which is already available in many other flagships. The read and write speeds are said to be up to 1,700MB/s but OnePlus has announced two new features. These are called Turbo Write and Host Performance Booster. The first one is about using ROM storage's upper section for high-speed read and write interval and the second one will improve the random read performance after extended use.
These are the newest features officially confirmed by the company. The OnePlus 8 series is already confirmed to be 5G compatible and features 120Hz display panels. We can expect to hear more such official confirmations in the coming days.
