Facebook Messenger app for Windows, macOS released with group video calling

03 April 2020 0

Facebook has finally released a dedicated desktop app for Messenger. The newly released app is available for both Windows and Mac PCs and is free to download. Prior to the release, users had to access Messenger on the web via the browser which could be inconvenient if there were multiple tabs.

As per the official statement, the team has noticed a 100% growth in people using their desktops for audio and video calling. This is what led to the release of the app on both the desktop platforms. One of the key features of the Messenger on PC will be group video calling functionality. All the chats and calling history will be synced across mobile and desktop apps.

The desktop app further has support for notifications. It will offer real-time notifications for new messages from individual as well as group conversations. It will also allow users to mute and snooze notifications for better management. And yes, users will get all the Messenger features like dark mode, GIFs, and stickers. It is same as the web version except that one does not have to rely on the web browser.

Messenger app for PC is available as a free download. These can be accessed by visiting Microsoft Store for Windows PCs and the Mac App Store for macOS PCs.
