In the past year or so, we have seen smartphone makers go back to the days of megapixel wars. It started with the release of 48-megapixel camera smartphones followed by 64-megapixel sensors. The current trend is 108-megapixel cameras available on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. But as per a new leak, the megapixel count is set to get almost double the current highest.
Digital Chat Station, a well-known Weibo tipster, has posted that a 192-megapixel camera smartphone is set to arrive as soon as the next month. The post does not mention any details about the camera sensor or even the name of the maker. Similarly, it is unknown which smartphone maker is working on the launch.
The post further mentions that the smartphone will feature Qualcomm's SM7250 processor which is the codename for Snapdragon 765 5G. It means that the phone will be a mid-range offering and will likely be affordable for most users. It is one of the Qualcomm processors that is compatible with up to the 192-megapixel sensor.
If the leak is correct and the launch is indeed only one month away, we should be hearing more about the smartphone. It would not be surprising if the brand itself starts teasing the camera sensor and the smartphone. Either way, we will keep you posted on all the new details that will emerge.
