Microsoft Surface Duo is still on track for release this year | Tip

There have been many uncertainties around the launch of Microsoft’s two ambitious products – Surface Neo and Surface Duo. The “exact” launch of both the foldable devices is still unknown but we wait eagerly to see them available in the market as early as possible. However, a possible launch timeframe of one of them has now surfaced that claims the device could launch in 2020.

AndroidAuthority has been tipped off by a source familiar with Microsoft’s plans, according to whom, the Android-powered Surface Duo could launch sometime in 2020. Meanwhile, the launch timeframe for Windows-powered Surface Neo is still unknown.

Note that the Surface Duo was introduced alongside the Surface Neo by Microsoft at Surface Event in October 2019 but the devices are not available yet and there are substantial proofs on their availability as well.

The Surface Duo was spotted being used in the wild in February 2020. Its first glimpse showed the device is not fully ready for coming into the market. And this appears to be the only reason why Microsoft keeps on delaying it. At the time of introduction, Microsoft didn't really talk about technical details of the Surface Duo, but later on, in March 2020, a set of specifications was leaked that claimed it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with no 5G support. The base model will arrive with 6GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage configuration and there are no other options available.

The Surface Duo and Surface Neo will run Windows 10X, a special version of Windows 10 which was first crafted especially for dual-screen devices. But, just recently, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 10X will be used by single-screen devices like laptops as well.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced new Surface Book 3, Surface Go 2, Surface Headphones 2, and more accessories.
