Lenovo is rumored to be working on its first-ever gaming phone and we have already learned a lot about it. According to the truckload of speculations, certifications, and reports, this gaming phone will come from the series called Legion and carry some interesting mobile gaming-centric features.
Recently, a thorough report from XDA Developers that managed to catch the glimpse of the phone, revealed beefy specifications of the device as well, including Snapdragon 865 processor, LPDDR5 RAM, 144Hz refresh rate, side-mounted pop-up camera, 90W dual Type-C fast charge, and more.
Now, a fresh report from DigiTimes suggests how serious Lenovo is for grabbing a good chunk of the gaming phone market. The report claims Lenovo recently recruited a key executive from Asustek Computer’s ROG Phone team. According to the sources from the upstream supply chain, the headhunting has even paid off as the company’s R&D capability of gaming smartphones “significantly enhanced.” Also. thanks to this move, Lenovo has managed to fast track its gaming smartphone business.
The report also claims that this gaming phone will launch later this month, however, it did not reveal the name of the device. But referring to some previous reports, we know the phone may be called Legion, but let’s just not jump to any conclusion for now.
Asus has been in the gaming industry for so long now. It brought its first gaming phone under the Republic of Gaming (ROG) brand in 2018 with an impressive set of specifications. Then it launched the Asus ROG Phone 2 in 2019 that carries a great profile and is considered one of the best gaming phones in the mobile gaming sector. Now, going by several leaks, Lenovo’s Legion gaming phone has an even better set of specs, including 144Hz, better processor, and fast-charging tech, plus craftsmanship from a newly recruited Asus ROG executive. So, if all goes well, it is going to be a tough competitor. But we should not forget that Asus might also be prepping the iteration to its existing phone that arrived with Snapdragon 855 Plus last year.
Lenovo’s reported Legion gaming phone will compete against the likes of other gaming phones, including Xiaomi’s Black Shark 3 Pro, ZTE’s Nubia Red Magic 5G, Razer Phone 2, and maybe Asus’ next gaming phone from ROG brand.
Let’s wait for more details to come on this.
