Huawei is apparently also working on a cheaper foldable phone and the information comes from the same personality who tipped something similar about Samsung’s cheaper foldable phone as well.

Ross Young, Founder/CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) in an interview with a YouTuber GregglesTV stated that Huawei is also working on a foldable phone which will be cheaper than its existing foldable phones He also claimed that this cheaper version will offer an in-folding foldable design, contrary to what Huawei launched before – a tablet-like form. So, presumably, it will be more like Galaxy Fold or Galaxy Z Flip.

Young notes,

“We expect to see Huawei pursue both a clamshell and in-folding model, and we think they’re struggling to come up with an ultra-thin glass solution right now for the clamshell. But we do expect them to do an in-folding model later this year, and be pretty aggressively priced.”

He adds that the manufacturer has ordered 500,000 units, saying that it could be the “next big product” in the foldable arena.

The display industry executive also notes that Huawei will launch the new foldable phone in September or October, presumably alongside the new Mate 40 series. There is no word on pricing, however. Compared to this, Young has tipped the price for the upcoming affordable Galaxy Fold Special Edition and according to him, it could come for $1,099.

Young also revealed in the interview that Xiaomi is also preparing a foldable and could launch soon. However, there are no details on the same. This could bear the same dual-fold design that surfaced in March last year. Let’s just wait for more information to come.
