After a long wait, YouTube Kids application has finally been made available for Apple TV users. The app can be downloaded on Apple TV HD as well as 4K via the App Store. It supports Siri voice commands for launch purposes which will be handy once the app has been installed successfully.
Google says it is up to the user whether they want to sign in to the YouTube Kids app or not. Those who would say 'yes' to the sign-in step, the app will show relevant steps to follow for authenticating their Google accounts. There are definitely benefits of signing-in as it will help the app keep a record of your watch history, channels you are subscribed to, parental settings, and other aspects of the app that one would like to tweak to their own preferences or needs.
It is worth noting that any changes to the Apple TV app settings can only be made using the YouTube Kids app on a smartphone or a tablet. This is likely to work even if you are not signed into the app but there is no confirmation yet. Another thing to keep in mind is that the Apple TV app is available in only those markets where YouTube Kids is available as well.
For the uninitiated ones, YouTube Kids is a dedicated app meant to provide kids-friendly content and reduce the chances of kids ending up watching anything inappropriate or not tailored for them. The app provides various filters and parental controls so that parents are in control of what their kids consume on the app.
