Android 11 Beta accidentally released for some Pixel 4 XL users

02 June 2020 0

Google had originally scheduled the Android 11 Beta event for June 3rd but due to the ongoing nationwide protests in the United States, it announced a delay. The new event date is yet to be revealed but as tweeted by XDA's Mishaal Rahman, Google has accidentally released Android 11 Beta for a few Pixel 4 XL users.

Rahman received messages on Twitter from at least two users who claimed to have received the beta build. One of these uses even shared a screenshot showing the update notification. It refers to the update as a "beta version of Android R" and reveals the build version number to be RPB1.200504.018. The update size is 736MB which is slightly on the higher side if someone happens to be on a limited internet plan.

Even though initial reports mention only about Pixel 4 XL, there is a possibility that other Pixel users may have also received the accidental beta release. It is unknown what caused the release but this is not the first time we are hearing about such an incident. Google had previously released Android 7.0 Nougat ahead of schedule for Nexus 6P users.

As for what's new with Android 11 Beta, Rahman has shared a new Twitter thread documenting some of them. There are three new icon shapes named IconShapeVessel, IconShapeTaperedRect, and IconShapePebble. The latest beta has a new power menu settings that appear when the power button is pressed for a few seconds. Some other features include new sub-menu for Bubble notifications, WiFi-enhanced MAC randomization developer option, control Pixel Launcher app suggestions, and new tutorials.
