Google has announced its latest and third 'Features Drop' for Pixel smartphones. It is essentially a collection of new features that will be made available for Pixel users apart from the usual updates. While the Pixel 4 series will receive all of them, older devices up to Pixel 2 lineup will receive select features based on hardware compatibility and optimal performance.
The team has added a new Personal Safety app for all Pixel phones. It can be used for sharing real-time location with all emergency contacts at once. It has one interesting feature called Safety Check where time can be set after which the phone will check if you are safe. If you do not respond to the check, it will automatically alert all of your emergency contacts. Additionally, it will show notifications for natural disasters and public emergencies in nearby areas.
The default Clock app is receiving a new Bedtime tab. It allows users to set up a sleep schedule that they would like to follow on a consistent basis. It offers relaxing sounds that can be played to fall asleep relatively easier and quicker. If a user stays awake and keeps using the phone past bedtime, it will offer details on the time spent beyond the usual sleeping time along with the apps that were used. The app further has Sunrise Alarm functionality that will awake users by either playing his favorite track or by gradually increasing the display brightness. These new Clock features will be available on Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 4.
Lastly, the Recorder app has been updated to offer integration with Google Assistant and Google Docs. It means users can now use voice commands to start recording or finding a particular recorded clip. The latter integration will hep users export their transcripts as Google Docs documents. It will also be released for Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 4.
