When OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 8 series in April, it was also expected to take wraps off an affordable mid-range smartphone. It did not happen and since then, we have been coming across reports about what and when to expect. Some have claimed that it could be called OnePlus 8 Lite but most rumors have referred it to as OnePlus Z. And now, we have some more details to talk about the upcoming phone.
As per a thread on DesiDime forums, some Payback (online rewards and cashback platform) users have received an OnePlus survey related to an unreleased smartphone. It asks users about their interest in purchasing an OnePlus smartphone that comes with certain specifications at specific pricing. There are five options to choose from which represent different levels of interest.
The phone in question is said to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 with 5G support. It sports a 6.56-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The configuration is mentioned to be 6GB RAM with 128GB of onboard storage. There is an "AI triple camera" setup featuring a 64-megapixel sensor, a 16-megapixel sensor, and a 2-megapixel sensor. The front camera is a 16-megapixel sensor housed within a punch-hole.
The battery capacity on the phone is 4,300mAh with support for 30W fast charging. The survey mentions the price of such a smartphone to be Rs. 24,990 in India which is about $330. Some of the specs including the processor are the same as what we have heard in previous reports. This suggests that this upcoming phone is none other than OnePlus Z and if it gets priced at the same or anywhere closed to what is mentioned in the survey, it is likely to become an instant hit in that price segment.
Additionally, a separate Android Central report cites a company insider to claim that the OnePlus Z launch will happen on July 10th. The reported date is for the Indian launch with no words on whether and when it will be expanded to global markets.
