Micromax, an Indian phone brand, has started preparations for a comeback in the Indian market. It will announce three new smartphones by the end of the next month that will be aimed at the budget segment. It has not revealed any specific details but thanks to replies to its fans on Twitter, we have an idea of what to expect.
As per some of the responses, Micromax's upcoming devices will offer "premium features" and a "thoroughly modern look" at a "budget-friendly" price. The company is clearly targeting three of the crucial factors that are important for any current-age smartphone to attract Indian buyers. It is further teasing the release as, "Gear up as you are going to hear from us soon."
A report from Gadgets360 cites an insider to claim that the tentative release date is currently set for next month. All three phones will be priced under Rs. 10,000 segment. This suggests that one should not expect too much from these smartphones and wait for official announcements and teasers.
There was a time when Micromax used to dominate the Indian mobile market and even surpassed Samsung in terms of shipments. It was known for importing phones directly from China, rebrand them as their own, and sale them at a cheaper price that helped them gain a massive following. But as Chinese phone makers, starting with Xiaomi, started to enter the Indian market themselves around 2015-16, Micromax and various other Indian brands started losing their market shares and eventually became obsolete. Faster than expected 4G adaptation which is something Indian companies did not jump on to quickly is another reason for them losing ground.
In the current scenario where anti-China sentiments are on a high in India, it seems like a good opportunity for Micromax to make a presence for itself. It should be noted that Micromax has not revealed whether it will be importing and rebranding phones from China again or it will follow some other approach. Nevertheless, we will keep you updated on any new developments.
