It is in rumors that Huawei is working on its next foldable phone but there are hardly any specifics available on the same. But now it’s been tipped off that Huawei’s next foldable phone may employ an ultra-thin glass (UTG) just like the Galaxy Z Flip. Reportedly, Huawei has purchased the ultra-thin flexible glass, presumably for its next foldable phone.
The tipster Digital Chat Station also reports that Xiaomi has purchased ultra-thin flexible glass as well, which it may use in its first-ever foldable phone as well.
It was Samsung who first made use of the ultra-thin flexible glass in its Galaxy Z Flip and is expected to continue to use it in the upcoming 5G variant as well. Samsung also added a plastic layer over the Galaxy Z Flip’s UTG layer so that it could withstand any damages. It is expected that the two aforementioned Chinese companies adopt the same approach in order to make their devices more durable.
Huawei already has two foldable phones in its portfolio – Mate X and Mate XS, meanwhile, Xiaomi is yet to enter the foldable smartphone market. Recently, a patent surfaced as well that depicted it was working on a folding smartphone. The patent showed Xiaomi has something similar to Huawei’s Mate X design, where the folding display folds outwards.
