Update: July 6, 2020
OnePlus made it evident last month that the much-anticipated affordable phone series will launch in July, though at that time, the name of the phone series was not made official. Now, we know the phone is going to be called OnePlus Nord and at this moment, we also know that the phone is launching on July 21st. Previously, July 10 launch was tipped but now a tweet from a well-known tipster Ishan Agarwal makes it apparent that the launch of the OnePlus Nord is still at a good distance from us.
The tipster spotted the listing of the AR Launch event invite of the OnePlus Nord on Amazon.in and later deleted the tweet. But keenly eyed folks over at XDA managed to take the screenshot of his tweet. The screenshots briefly showcased the possible launch date of the OnePlus Nord. The page on Amazon.in has also been deleted, but one can see the cached copy of it to get the idea of what OnePlus is planning.
The listing suggests that OnePlus is going to spice up the online event by holding it in AR. The listing reads, “everyone who purchases a OnePlus Nord AR Launch Invite is automatically entered for a chance to win great prizes, including a OnePlus Q1 TV, Nord phone, BWZ, and gift cards.”
It should be noted that while the listing suggests it to be a confirmed launch date, the removal of it raises questions. Well, it is possible that OnePlus did not want to reveal the launch date this way, so it had to delete it.

It is no more a mystery that OnePlus is gearing up to launch a new affordable phone. While we do not have much in our hands to tell you what this phone would carry with itself, OnePlus has made a couple of references to a new affordable phone in the past. And, now, Pete Lau, Founder & CEO at OnePlus via his newest tweet is addressing new beginnings. Lau shared a link to the OnePlus community forum to tell us more about the company’s plans.
Lau in the post reaffirms that OnePlus will bring the premium, flagship experience to a new, more affordable smartphone "product line." This means it is just not going to be one phone as OnePlus appears to be planning to launch a new series.
Lau mentioned that the company has been working hard to deliver the best experience for flagship phone users. But they also know that there is a huge userbase who wants to have a “solid smartphone” for a more accessible price. And, this is where the company will now work on.
Furthermore, the post reveals that the new “product line” will first be introduced in Europe and India, though the company promised to bring more affordable phones to North America in the near future as well.
Lau didn’t disclose the name of the phone to which he made a reference to but he did share a link to an Instagram private profile which goes by the name OnePlusLiteZThing. Looking at the profile name, it appears the much-anticipated OnePlus affordable phone will carry either OnePlus Lite or OnePlus Z name, something leaks have always made a reference to. But a recent tip suggested that the first OnePlus affordable phone could be known as OnePlus Nord.
You can follow the OnePlusLiteZThing Instagram page to gain more insights. There are not many posts maintained, though one of the posts revealed that the series is going to launch in July, something leaks have suggested as well. The post shows a morse code and OnePlus asks followers to crack it. The answer to this riddle is “July,” indicating the phone or the new series is coming next month.
Lau also revealed that the new product team is being handled by Paul Yu, who has headed product hardware development for many of OnePlus’ previous flagship devices over the past 5 years. The post also makes a mention of the team which is working behind this product line. According to OenPlus, the product line is a collective effort of young, creative, and enthusiastic OnePlus staff from all over the world.
