Apple to ship iPhone 12 without power adapter | UPD: another leak corroborates

01 July 2020 0

UPDATE (July 1st, 2020):

It is time another tipster to make the same claim that Apple will not bundle iPhone 12 with an adapter and earphones. This new tipster is @L0vetodream who has a reliable track record. He further claims that even the iPhone SE 2 i.e. iPhone SE (2020) successor will also follow the same approach. This will result in retail packaging to become "thinner" and "exquisite".

Original (June 29th, 2020)

Apple's iPhone 12 lineup is set to arrive with a number of major changes but it seems like these will not be limited to product design and specifications. Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned research analyst, has claimed that Apple will ship iPhone 12 series without a power adapter in the retail box. This is in addition to his previous notes about no wired earbuds in the packaging.

All four iPhone 12 series models are said to offer 5G capabilities that will make them cost more than the usual but Apple wants to price them closer to the iPhone 11 series. This is the reason it has decided to remove in-box accessories and thus keeping the pricing as low as possible. It is planning to sell both the earbuds and power adapter separately via online and offline stores.

It is expected to describe the move as a step towards environment care as it will result in less e-waste generation. If you are a long-time iPhone user, you probably have adapters lying around which means you are unlikely to get affected. It is the first-timers that will have to shell out extra money if they will be specifically interested in Apple-made adapters.

It should be noted that Apple is already reported to announce a new 20W power adapter for users interested in fast charging. The release will result in the company bidding farewell to 5W and 18W adapter productions. The new high-power adapter will work with any iPhone compatible with fast charging.

The report further claims that Apple will stop offering the 5W adapter with iPhone SE (2020) later this year. However, the 12W adapter will continue to be shipped with the current-generation iPad offerings i.e. iPad Air, 10.2-inch iPad, and iPad mini.

The Apple iPhone 12 isn't still available. To be notified when it becomse available click here.
