In the current state of affairs, Android offers universal sound adjustment features on smartphones and tablets. It means once you set device volume to a particular level, it is applicable to all the apps. Xiaomi's MIUI 12 is making a slight tweak to this approach that will give users the freedom of choosing a specific volume levels for individual apps.
This new MIUI 12 feature is called Sound Assistant and is pretty much similar to how Windows PCs offer the same functionality. It is accessible by visiting Settings followed by Sound & Vibration. The interface will show a new Sound Assitant option that needs to be tapped for personalization purposes. There are actually two more options: Adjust media sound in multiple apps and Multiple audio sources.
Once enabled, the user will need to press volume keys as usual which will bring the standard volume adjustment bar on the right side of the interface. It will also have a rounded music icon on the left side which needs to be tapped for manual adjustment of the volume for each of the selected apps.
Sound Assistant is currently available only on the MUI 12 Chinese ROM. The team has plans to bring it to the Global ROM but there is no specific timeline for the same. The feature should become available for all MIUI 12 compatible smartphones but if there is a specific list of devices, we will keep you updated. It is undoubtedly one of the features that we would love to see on other Android skins as well as stock Android itself.
