Samsung is reportedly prepping to launch an affordable 5G Galaxy smartphone as well. Folks over at SamMobile have learned that Samsung has started development on what seems to be a 5G-enabled smartphone called the Galaxy A42 and it will launch in 2021. The exclusive report by the publication further states that the device in question bears the SM-A426B model number.
The report points out that referring to Samsung’s current system of putting the model number of phones, this could be the international variant of the Galaxy A42 4G. Although there is no evidence found on the LTE-only version of the Galaxy A42, it is believed that this variant also exists and will be released too. The report further claims that the 4G only variant of the Galaxy A42 could feature 128GB internal storage but said nothing for its affordable 5G counterpart.
By launching an affordable 5G phone, Samsung will diversify its smartphones’ portfolio even further. It already offers 5G with some high-end and mid-range offerings and now with the alleged Galaxy A42, it will bring the power of 5G in the hands of the masses.
Around two months back, Samsung confirmed that it is doubling down on 5G smartphones and would launch some cheap options to grab as well. It appears that the Galaxy A42 5G is the first phone built on the same ideology.
It is unknown what specs the Galaxy A42 5G will carry but you can take some hints by looking at its predecessor Galaxy A41. It came with Super AMOLED Infinity-U display and we believe the successor Galaxy A42 5G to feature the same design. It is possible that Samsung would make use of Qualcomm’s or MediaTek’s affordable 5G offerings for its Galaxy A42 5G. The phone may carry a dual-camera setup to lower down the overall pricing. Well, it is too early to comment on the same, so let’s just wait for more insights to come.
