Spotify has officially expanded the Premium Duo subscription plan to 55 new countries including the United States and India. This new is plan is meant for couples or any two people living under the same roof like flatmates or siblings. It originally debuted last year under the testing phase but is now being made available for masses.
The idea behind the Premium Duo plan is to allow couples to have two independent premium accounts for relatively cheaper pricing. The actual pricing varies from region to region but for everyone, it will be more affordable than paying for two premium accounts separately. For example, it costs only $12.99 per month in the U.S. and Rs. 149 per month in India as compared to individual pricing of $9.99 per month and Rs. 119 per month respectively. And yes, it also comes with a one-month free trial.
The official blog post makes it clear that despite subscribing for a duo plan, users will get to keep their individual music preferences and playlists. It simply means they will continue to use the app just like they do on an individual account. However, they will get access to a new and exclusive playlist called Duo Mix. It is a playlist that will get updated regularly and will feature audio tracks on the basis of both users' preferences.
Alex Norstrom, Chief Freemium Business Officer at Spotify said,
“Today we are proud to launch Spotify Premium Duo, a first-of-its-kind audio offering for just two people in the same household. Premium Duo includes our extensive music and podcast catalog and everything users love about Spotify Premium. With two individual Premium accounts, you can both listen independently, uninterrupted, and get all of your personalized playlists and features tailored just for you. We are thrilled to bring this unique Spotify Premium plan to even more markets around the world.”
