YouTube now supports SmartReply for comments on videos

03 July 2020 0

Google's AI-powered SmartReply functionality is available a wide range of apps and now, it has been expanded to YouTube. The new support is available for content creators via the YouTube Studio application. The goal of SmartReply on YouTube is to help creators reply to the maximum number of comments within a short span of time.

Even though content creators try to reply to all comments, it gets difficult and even impossible for those who have a huge fan following running into millions. This is why SmartReply will allow those creators to engage with more users within the same amount of time. The feature will offer reply suggestions depending on the comment posted by followers.

Even though Google has been working on SmartReply for years and has even integrated with various apps, the team had to work hard to bring it to YouTube. The official statement says it is because of the informal nature of conversations that happen in the comments section. In other words, users usually do not follow proper grammar or punctuations and also prefer to use emojis, abbreviations, and slangs.

In the official statement, Google said:

"We are now excited to share an updated SmartReply built for YouTube and implemented in YouTube Studio that helps creators engage more easily with their viewers. This model learns comment and reply representation through a computationally efficient dilated self-attention network, and represents the first cross-lingual and character byte-based SmartReply model. SmartReply for YouTube is currently available for English and Spanish creators, and this approach simplifies the process of extending the SmartReply feature to many more languages in the future."
