Along with Samsung, Huawei is one of the globally recognized smartphone brands that are committed to making foldable phones mainstream. It currently has two products, Huawei Mate X and Mate Xs, in the lineup and is now reportedly working on a new offering. This new phone is said to be called Huawei Mate V and it will feature an inward folding mechanism.
The inward fold will be a first for Huawei as its both foldable devices come with an external folding. It means the primary display of the phone remains on the outside when folded. The inward approach has been used by Samsung with both Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip as well as Motorola's Moto Razr (2019). It is safer for the display panels as it prevents them from damages like scratches.
Even though previous reports referred to the phone as the Mate X2, Huawei's trademark application for "Mate V" as made experts think otherwise. The application has been submitted with the European Union (EU) and should be granted in the coming weeks. The description also makes it clear that Huawei will use the trademark under Category 9 for products like smartphones and mobile phones.
There have also been rumors that Huawei will unveil an affordable foldable phone. This is similar to what Samsung did with the Galaxy Z Flip launch. This particular phone is also speculated to offer an inward foldable mechanism and we would not be surprised if it turns out to be the aforementioned Mate V.
