Update: August 20, 2020

Some specifications of the Asus Zenfone 7 have been tipped by referring to a kernel source of Asus ROG Phone 3. As discovered by Japanese tech blog Reameizu and reported later by a tipster @yabhishekhd on Twitter, the kernel source of ROG phone 3 is revealing some key details about the Zenfone 7.

According to the report, the Zenfone 7 is said to come with a 6.4-inch FHD+ LCD display supplied by the manufacturer BOE. The display is believed to have a 60Hz refresh rate. The report further points out by referring to the kernel source, the fingerprint scanner present on the Zenfone 7 comes from Goodix and the IC is “gf3636.” This is the same sensor present in the Honor X10 as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor which means the Zenfone 7 could feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor as well.

Additionally, the same tipster shared on Twitter that Zenfone 7 will come with a triple rear cameras setup that includes a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary sensor, a 12MP Sony IMX363 image sensor with an ultra-wide lens, and a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor.

UPDATE (August 18th, 2020):

An Asus smartphone with model number ASUS_I002D has been spotted on the Geekbench website. It is speculated to be the upcoming ZenFone 7 that will be announced officially on August 26th. The listing shows it with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor paired with 8GB of RAM. It means it could also be the ZenFone 7 Pro which will be a more expensive variant of the standard phone.

In the past couple of weeks, we have started to hear more details about the Asus ZenFone 7 series. It is the next-gen lineup of flagship phones that will succeed currently available ZenFone 6. A fresh report has surfaced claiming that Asus will offer different Qualcomm Snapdragon processors with both smartphone models of the lineup.

The report believes that the ZenFone 7 will be powered by Snapdragon 865 and ZenFone 7 Pro will come with the Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset. The claim is based on the references found in the source code of an unknown Asus device with the model name listed as "asus ZF". It showed different clock speeds, 2.84 GHz and 3.09 GHz, suggesting the use of two different processors.

It is the listed clock speed that has helped the team crack exact Qualcomm Snapdragon models. Both of these are flagship processors where Snapdragon 865+ is the newest one. It was announced just a few weeks ago and is essentially an enhanced version of the standard Snapdragon 865.

Other rumors have already claimed that the ZenFone 7 series will have a 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging. There are expectations of the highest storage option being 512GB which will be a lot of storage space. And yes, Asus is reported to continue with the flip camera mechanism that allows using same sensors as front and back cameras.
