Netflix has started testing a new cheap monthly plan in India. This new plan is called "Mobile+" and it is priced at Rs. 349 per month. The name makes it clear that it sits slightly above the existing "Mobile" plan that costs Rs. 199 per month. In other words, users will get some extra benefits with the new plan.
The major difference between Mobile and Mobile+ plans is that the latter offers HD streaming and supports PC/laptops as well. It is an important addition as the cheapest Netflix plan restricts users to mobile devices and Standard Definition (SD) streaming. However, the plan excludes streaming on TV and simultaneous streaming on multiple devices.
In response to the reports about the new plan, Netflix said,
“We launched the Mobile plan in India to make it easier for anyone with a smartphone to enjoy Netflix. We want to see if members like the added choice [the Mobile+ plan] brings. We will only roll it out long-term if they do.”
There is no doubt that the new Mobile+ plan will appeal to those users who do not share their accounts with others. This way, they do not have to think about multi-device streaming support and will still get to stream their favorite content in high definition. The last part is something that is missing from other cheaper plans. As of now, the new plan is under testing and only the time will tell whether Netflix will make it available for everyone in India.
