Spotify has announced the launch of video podcasts so to connect you to your favorite podcast even better. This is a global availability but in the beginning, the facility is available with select podcasts only. Spotify via its blog post conveys that the feature is now live in all the markets where podcasts are already supported.
The video podcasts will let you watch your favorite creators right inside the Spotify app. The good thing is, switching between different apps will not stop the background playing of the video podcast. It will seamlessly switch between the video and audio podcast with no interruption whatsoever. Spotify claims the background playing of the audio will use only minimal data. And the video podcasts are available to both free and premium users. Another good thing is the background playing and its virtues are not just limited to premium users.
Also, all the listeners will still be able to download the audio to their mobile devices to listen to shows on the go. Spotify mentions the name of some of the select podcasts that are available to watch - Book of Basketball 2.0, Fantasy Footballers, The Misfits Podcast, H3 Podcast, The Morning Toast, Higher Learning with Van Lathan & Rachel Lindsay, and The Rooster Teeth Podcast.
Spotify mentions in order to watch podcasts, just press play on your desktop or mobile app. The videos will start automatically and sync immediately with your audio feed.
Spotify believes the new video podcasts feature will also help the creators connect more with their listeners. This will not only expand viewership but also deepen audience engagement. As Techcrunch notes, the podcasts already have a video option but Spotify offered no way for creators to share them with the audiences on its platform. So, creators had to turn to other services like YouTube to offer the video version of their audio podcasts. Now, the new feature will help the creators to share their video podcasts on Spotify only, though they can continue to use YouTube to build a fan base there as well.
