Apple is reportedly working on adding two new camera suppliers for future iPhone camera tech. The report is based on Ming-Chi Kuo's latest research notes that also mention the names of those suppliers. These are Semco and Sunny Optical which are claimed to be the best Korean and Chinese lens suppliers respectively.
It is added that Semco will join Apple's supply chain in the second half of 2020. As for Sunny Optical, it will become a part of the chain slightly later and sometime in 2021. Apple currently relies on Genius Electronic Optical for procuring camera lenses for iPhone but going forward, it is likely to distribute the share.
The more interesting bit of information is that Semco is said to be responsible for providing the majority of the telescopic lenses that Apple will use in 2022 iPhones. This suggests that behind the scenes progress for the development of the tech is going smooth and is on track as per the final goal.
Periscopic lenses are known for providing higher optical zoom capabilities to smartphone cameras. We have already seen different Android OEMs make use of them in their respective flagship devices. It is not surprising to see Apple taking its sweet time before implementing something new to iPhones.
