In what would many see as surprising news, Google Nest smart display devices have received Netflix streaming support. The support is available for both Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max models. With this announcement, Google has beaten Amazon in the race of being the first to offer Netflix streaming on smart displays.
The support will arrive via an update that will enable Netflix streaming. A user will simply need to link his Netflix account inside the Google Home or Assistant app to get started. There is support for voice commands where users can ask the Assistant to launch the app or play any particular movie/show available on the platform.
The bigger version i.e. Nest Hub Max features a camera that Google has utilized for adding a Netflix-specific gesture. A user can look at the device's camera and hold up his hand in the air to play/pause currently playing content. It can be helpful in various situations as if you are busy in the kitchen and want to pause a show for a moment without touching the Max Hub.
With this update, Nest Hub devices become an even better smart display option in comparison to Amazon's Echo lineup. They already offer YouTube and deeper integration with Google Photos.
