31 July 2020 0

UPDATE (July 31st, 2020):

The Galaxy Z Flip 5G is finally up for preorders for those who were waiting to get their hands on the device. Only unlocked variant is available for preorder and that too through Samsung's own online store. It is available for $1,449.99 that will get you the 256GB onboard storage model. Samsung is also offering two special pre-order offers that include a free 1-month subscription to Obé fitness and a $25 Glamsquad credit that can be used for hair service booking.

Original (July 22nd, 2020)

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G foldable smartphone has gone official for $1,450 in the US. To our surprise, the device has come a little early and looks it was never among those five products that Samsung has promised to bring at its scheduled August 5 event.

As you would have guessed, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G comes as an upgraded version of the Galaxy Z Flip that the company launched earlier this year. It is a 5G-enabled phone but features the same form factor as its standard model. It folds the same way and that is to its horizontal axis to better fit in your pockets. The tiny outer display stays here as well.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G comes in two new premium colors including Mystic Gray and Mystic Bronze, all encased in glass.

The new Galaxy Z Flip 5G is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G Mobile processor that promises faster on-device processing and other great things like improved graphics rendering. This is the only difference between the all-new Galaxy Z Flip 5G and its non-5G variant. The rest of the specifications, including 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, and a dual-12MP camera setup remain the same.

However, Samsung touts that it has now brought an “improved Flex Mode” as well. The upgrade lets you easily shoot from higher and lower angles. To use this new feature, simply double-tap in Flex mode to switch the camera’s preview window from the top to the bottom half of the device. This feature may come to the standard model after an update.

Overall, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G includes all the updated software features. These also include a Multi-window panel that allows launching two apps on top of each other. It also gets the ability to run YouTube in Flex Mode.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be available in the carrier and Unlocked versions starting August 7, 2020. Interested buyers can get it online through AT&T, Best Buy, Samsung.com, T-Mobile, and Amazon.com. It is priced at $1,449.99, just $70 more than the original Galaxy Z Flip that launched at $1,380. On Samsung.com, the Flip 5G will also be eligible for trade-in values of up to $650.

Now that Galaxy Z Flip G has gone official, we believe the five products that Samsung is expected to bring at its August 5 Galaxy Unpacked event are new Galaxy Note, a tablet may be, new Watch 3, Bean-shaped earbuds, and most probably a brand new foldable phone that goes by the name Galaxy Fold 2.
