The OnePlus Nord is currently the talk of the town in the mid-range price segment. It is a phone that offers a lot without costing a lot, something that has started to become an odd occurrence. The phone is available in different major markets but for some reason, not in the United States. But as per recent reports, things are likely to change in the coming months.
In an exclusive conversation with Wired, OnePlus CEO and co-founder Carl Pei has revealed that OnePlus Nord US launch is set for later this year. This is the first time that we have heard an official statement on the U.S. launch situation. Unfortunately, Lau did not offer any other details about the release, pricing, plans, or carrier partnerships.
This is where the second report makes things even more interesting. The folks over at XDA were digging through the latest OxygenOS 10.5 build to find something worth talking about. Their exploration proved to be fruitful as they stumbled upon references to an upcoming OnePlus smartphone codenamed Billie. There were also different calls to "isSM6350Products" within the OxygenOS settings app. It is worth noting that SM6350 is the internal codename for the newly released Snapdragon 690 processor.
The processor was essentially looking for models BE2025, BE 2026, BE 2028, and BE2029. If it was able to find them, it was returning the value as "true". There are speculations that "BE" in the codename stands for Billie Eilish, an American singer-songwriter. If actually true, this is not the first time OnePlus would be using a music celebrity name for codenaming its devices. The currently available OnePlus Nord has a codename Avicii and thus model number AC2001 and AC2003.
It is quite possible that OnePlus Nord might turn into a dedicated lineup of smartphones and eventually a sub-brand. This is the reason whenever Nord arrives in America, it might actually be a different device than the current Nord.
