UPDATE (September 8th, 2020):
Another leak has appeared corroborating that iPhone 12 series will indeed be unveiled in two phases. The new report is again coming from Digitimes but this time it cites SLP suppliers. The claim remains the same i.e. two 6.1-inch iPhone 12 model will go on sale first followed by the launch of 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch models. Apple has followed a similar strategy in the past as well and with the global pandemic situation, it would not be surprising to see it repeat.
Original (August 4th, 2020):
Apple is now reported to release iPhone 12 series models in two phases with two models per phase. The report is coming from Digitimes citing supply chain sources. This is not a surprising claim considering Apple has already confirmed officially that the next-gen iPhone launch will get delayed by a few weeks than usual.
The iPhone 12 series widely rumored to include four models featuring two 6.1-inch models, one 5.4-inch model, and one 6.7-inch model. All of these will have OLED display panels which will be the first time Apple will ditch LCD panels completely. The latest report claims that the two 6.1-inch models will get released first followed by the launch of 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch models.
These groups are based on the component supply situation where 6.1-inch model components have begun shipping. Apple is expecting to see shipments for the other two models towards the end of this month. This is the reason those two models launch will get delayed even further. However, it is still quite possible that Apple may announce all four models at the same event. It is only the availability that may get affected.
As far as the launch event is concerned, we are yet to hear anything concrete. The event usually takes place in the month of September but considering everything that is happening around the world, we might see it get delayed as well. Nevertheless, we will keep you posted on all the developments.
