Xbox Series X is the only new-gen gaming console confirmed by Microsoft so far but there have been rumors about a new affordable console variant as well. This cheaper alternative will be a successor to Xbox One S and is widely reported to be internally codenamed Lockhard. Now, a new leak has surfaced that reveals the official commercial name for the machine.
As reported by The Verge, a Twitter user Zack S has shared a bunch of Xbox controller images that he managed to purchase from a retail store. The controller is in the "Robot White" color which has not been announced for the Xbox Series X yet. However, the retail packaging mentions that it will work with both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.
This is the first time we have come across the name "Xbox Series S" through official channels. It is likely to be the name for the cheaper second-gen console that will replace the current Xbox One S. It will be a good option for those who would find the Xbox Series X to be quite expensive. The affordable version will surely have toned down specifications and features but it will be easier on the pocket as well.
Last year, Microsoft also unveiled a disc-less version of the Xbox One S console that supported only digitally downloaded games. We can a similar variant for the upcoming Xbox Series S console variant as well. It helps gamers save even more money who rarely use physical discs and prefer downloading games to their library.
