Google's Android TV platform for smart TVs does not get updates as often as the main Android OS meant for smartphones. This difference because of the obvious reasons but the good thing is that whenever an update arrives, it is usually packed with multiple features. The latest update is no different as it brings Instant Apps, 4-digit PIN, and Gboard keyboard support.
Instant Apps on Android TV will work the same as it has been working on Android since its debut years ago. The feature allows users to try out Android apps without actually installing them. It helps them make a decision whether that particular app is worth installation or not. It is worth noting that this feature will work with only those apps whose developers have implemented it. Another thing to keep in mind is that you will be able to use only a certain aspect/feature of the app, not the fully-fledged version.
To know if a particular app is Instant App, simply open the app page on Google Play Store on your Android TV. If you see the "Try Now" option next to the Install button, then it means you can try that app out. This is a simple process of checking any app for the Instant App functionality.
One of the common complaints about Android TV that users have is the difficult typing experience, especially when it comes to entering those complex passwords. Google is making that signing-in experience a lot better with the addition of 4-digit PIN. It will let users set a 4-digit PIN for authentication purposes that will surely be a lot easier and faster to enter through the remote.
There is a newly improved Gboard TV that will make it easier to type on Android TV. The layout of the keyboard has been changed from A-Z to the traditional and more common QWERTY. There is support for features like speech-to-text, predictive typing, different alignments (center, left, or right), and optimizations for over 30 countries. Lastly, Android TV gamers will be able to enjoy their games more with the help of the low-latency mode. It will work whenever a game will be shown full-screen.
