UPDATE (January 20th, 2021):
Netflix has officially confirmed that the "Shuffle Play" button will be released for everyone later this year. It made the revelation during the Q4 2020 earnings call. This new feature is under testing since August 2020 and plays a random movie or TV show based on the user's taste. It is aimed at helping users when they are not sure about what to watch next.

Netflix arguably has the biggest collection of movies, TV shows, and documentaries that one can find among streaming services. It ensures that there is something for everyone but having so many options can also be overwhelming, especially when it comes to picking what to watch next. This is the reason behind Netflix's new feature test meant to offer an alternative to that problem.
Netflix has started testing the "Shuffle Play" button on the welcome screen of the app. It is the screen where the app asks users to choose the profile they would like to use. As the name suggests, clicking the button will result in a randomly selected movie or TV show getting played. It is meant to take out the guesswork and let users jump on something to watch instantly.
Interesting new feature @netflix ... but what kind of insane person just says, “yolo, let’s spin the Netflix wheel of fortune” pic.twitter.com/6WDJrmd7pG

It is reported that the random selection will be based on the particular user's interests and watch history. It could be a content that they were watching but did not complete, something they added to "My List", or something related to the kind of content they have watched in the past. The good thing is that the app even shows the reason for selecting a particular content.
This new test is currently limited to Netflix's smart TV application. There are no words on when it will become available for other devices including smartphones and tablets. The feature has received mixed responses from users as some are describing them as a relief while others are seeing it as pure chaos where Netflix could play anything.
