Google Photos app may get a new editor UI soon

27 August 2020 0

Google appears to be testing a new editor UI for its Google Photos app. This is apparent from a screenshot provided by @wongmjane, an expert at revealing upcoming features of the apps.

According to the snapshot (featured above) provided by her on Twitter, there is a major change in the UI of the editor. Currently, the editor UI of the Google Photos app shows five options at the bottom of the editing page. These include Filters, Adjust, Crop, Doodle, and Extensions. All of them are represented by their respective logos. But this is about to change in the new update.

The screenshots reflect that the editor UI of the app will now show text for all these categories rather than their current icon representations. The new text fields are “Suggestions,” “Crop,” “Adjust,” “Filters,” and “More.” All of them have their unchanged functionality, though there are other minute changes here and there.

The Suggestions tab includes options like Auto, B&W, and Color Pop. The option “Auto” was first included in the “Filters” category with other options like Eiffel, Metro, and so on. This is now accommodated inside Suggestions for a quick edit after all suggestions are what AI recommends. All these categories with their text representations sit above Cancel and Save copy buttons. And, there is one more slab of options that sits above them. A range of options gets opened when you select a category. For instance, clicking on Adjust will open options like Exposure and Contrast on the upper carousel to improve the look and colors of an image.

Currently, the Save copy option resides on the top right corner of the editor UI in Google Photos.

Jane mostly uncovers the hidden features of the apps that the developers test internally. It is not necessary that these features will land on the apps in the near future. Sometimes these features take months to show up. But, a reply to Jane’s tweet on the same development reflects that the new editor UI will land pretty soon. An Indonesian user also shared the snapshot of the editor page showing off he also received the new UI. This reflects Google may be testing the feature with a bunch of users already.

Let’s see when this new editing UI comes to all of us.
