Redmi 9, a new entry-level smartphone is official in India at a price tag lower than 10,000 INR. It can be regarded as a slightly tweaked variant of the Redmi 9C that was launched in Malaysia in June this year.
One of the major differences between the two phones is the camera setup, which is dual rear cameras set up in the case of Redmi 9 and triple cameras in Redmi 9C. The Redmi 9 skips the ultra-wide sensor and gets only two sensors – 13MP primary snapper and 2MP depth sensor. The dual-camera setup on the back has some AI capabilities like AI scene detection that identifies the scenes and enhance them accordingly.
Another major difference includes RAM and storage size. The Redmi 9 gets 4GB RAM and storage option is also increased to 64GB and 128GB, both variants are available at a price point of sub-10K for the country. The built-in storage can be further expanded using a microSD card slot.
The Redmi 9 is powered by MediaTek Helio G35 processor, which is the same SoC that also empowers the Redmi 9C.
The Redmi 9 features teardrop notch on the display and houses a 5MP selfie camera. It is a dual SIM smartphone that runs Android 10 with MIUI on top. It features a 6.53-inch HD+ Dot View display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. It packs a massive 5,000mAh battery that supports fast-charging. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The company touts that the Redmi 9 is also TUV Rheinland certified for blue light filter and reading mode.
The Redmi 9 4GB+64GB storage variant is priced at 8,999 INR, while the 128GB storage option has a price tag of 9,999 INR. It comes in Carbon Blac, Sky Blue, and Sport Orange color options. The first sale in the country will begin at 12 pm IST on August 31. It will be available at Mi.com and offline retailers in the country soon.
