As per new research by Omdia, iPhone 11 was the most shipped smartphone in the first half of 2020. It is one of the five iPhone models that feature in the top 10 list. The other phones include four from Xiaomi and just one from Samsung. The difference between the first and second-ranked smartphones is significant.
The report mentions that Apple shipped 37.7 million units of iPhone 11 during the first six months of the year. In comparison, Samsung's Galaxy A51 is ranked second in the list but has shipped only 11.4 million units. Apple has clearly dominated the listing with more than double the number of units shipped. This is not surprising considering iPhone XR used to be at the top of the list until iPhone 11 came around.
The list further includes Xiaomi's Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro with 11 million and 10.2 million units respectively. The other iPhone models in the list are iPhone SE (2020), iPhone XR, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone 11 Pro at the fifth, sixth, seventh, and tenth positions respectively.
It is not hard to see why iPhone 11 is not only topping the list but with such a huge margin. It is an iPhone model that belongs to the current-generation lineup and also costs quite cheap. With the iPhone 12 launch getting closer, we can expect it to get even cheaper to make room for the new models.
