Google Verified Calls to show business caller's identity and purpose

09 September 2020 0

Google's stock Phone app is getting a new feature called Verified Calls. The feature is aimed at helping both businesses and customers connect with each other. It wants to reduce the chances of people rejecting or missing calls from businesses as they usually call from unknown numbers.

Verified Calls will show important details like the business caller's name and logo along with the reason for calling. Google is hoping that once customers will see the information, especially the reason for calling, they are more likely to pick the call. The official announcement mentions like a bank mention that they calling regarding a fraudulent transaction and delivery companies can use it to show the reason that it is about the package delivery.

Google says that it will be partnering with businesses interested in being a part of the initiative. It will verify those businesses before making them a part of the Verified Calls functionality. The feature has been under testing for quite some time and is now getting rolled out to the United States, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, and India.

The Phone app from Google is currently available only for Pixel and Android One devices but will be expanded to other devices. It has not said exactly what devices will be getting but all compatible ones will be able to download via Play Store.
