Apple is widely rumored to be working on premium over-the-air headphones named AirPods Studio. The details about them used to be scarce but in the past few days, there has been a surge in leaks. A tipster has now claimed that the AirPods Studio will be powered by Apple's custom U1 chipset.
The leak is coming from Twitter user @L0vetodream who simply tweeted, "U1 for Studio". This custom chipset is known for enabling Ultra-Wideband technology. It helps in spatial awareness functionality which is eventually useful for enhancing the audio device user experience. This is the same chipset that is also rumored to feature in the upcoming AirTags.

The exact usage of the chipset is unknown but it is speculated to be used for tracking the AirPods Studio location. It will be linked with the Find My application that will show the device's last known location. It would be helpful in different situations when users might forget where they kept them.
One of the best usages of the U1 chipset will be that it will be able to recognize the left and right positioning of the headset. It means users will not have to worry about looking for the left and right sides before wearing them. They can be worn in any way and the chipset will adapt accordingly.
