New Xbox Beta app with remote play released for Android, iOS

28 September 2020 0

Microsoft has released a new Xbox Beta application that is not only available for Android, but also for iOS. The app comes with a redesign that should be more user friendly. The biggest change to the app is support for the remote play that will give some freedom and flexibility to Xbox gamers.

Remote play is essentially the ability to play Xbox games directly on your supported smartphone or tablet. This is similar to what Xbox Cloud Gaming offers but there is one major difference. You are required to have an Xbox gaming console before you can start using remote play. This is because it can stream only those games to mobile devices that are installed on your own Xbox.

On another hand, Xbox Cloud Gaming lets anyone stream games without any such requirement for hardware. Microsoft has always wanted to bring this service to iOS but it had to drop the idea due to restrictions imposed by Apple policies. So if you are an iOS user who wants to stream Xbox games, the new Xbox Beta app with remote play support is your only way for now.

It should be noted that the app currently in the beta stage and is available through Apple's TimeFlight beta testing program. It means if all the slots get filled before you can join, you will have to wait until booked slots start to get free or the stable version of the app becomes available. The app works with any iOS device running at least iOS 8 which should not be a problem for most.
