Amazon One payment method will let you pay by waving hands

30 September 2020 0

Amazon has announced a new contactless biometric authentication method named Amazon One. It relies on palm detection to work where the user simply needs to wave his palm over the device. It is being projected as a convenient way of shopping experience for customers but can also be used for different purposes.

Amazon One can be used for paying at the store by simply waving palm at the checkpoint. It is said to be a lot faster and more convenient than other traditional payment methods. Other usage cases of One are said to be presenting a loyalty card, entering a location like a stadium, or badging into work more effortlessly.

The official blog post mentions that the tech scans the user's palm to look for unique aspects so that it can create an identification point. It is not required to have an Amazon account for using One but if the user chooses to sign-up or sign-in with his account, he will be able to keep a track of his usage history and manage information.

Amazon One is currently available at only two of Amazon Go retail stores in Seattle, United States. The sign-up process includes inserting a credit card in the One device and hovering palm over it. All instructions promoted on the device's display will need to be followed which should take about a minute. It is up to a particular user whether to get only one or both palms scanned. After successful registration, the user will simply need to wave his registered palm on the device to identify themselves.

The team says they are hoping to expand Amazon One support to as many stores as well. We will keep you posted on all the future developments related to the expansion of the payment method.
