Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G have finally gone official after being in leaks for so long. Google launched the two phones at its "Launch Night In" the event where it also took the wraps off its other hardware.
We are formally meeting the two phones via this official event as the leaks have posed enough help already and revealed every bit about them.
Among some of the new things that Google talked about at the event is the ultrawide lens on the two phones. Also, the latest phones get Super Res Zoom and Cinematic Pan. Google also talks about the new editor in Google Photos that lets you do more than before. Google also announced that the new Pixel phones come with all-day batteries that can last up to 48 hours with Extreme Battery Saver mode. They both come with Titan M security chip as well to keep your on-device data safe and secure. Also, both of them are promised to get three years of software and security updates.
Starting with Pixel 5, the device has a matte glass finish on the rear and has an aluminum body. It features a 6-inch full HD+ OLED display with Gorilla Glass 6 protection and 90Hz refresh rate and HDR support. It is powered by a Snapdragon 765G processor and this makes it a 5G-capable phone but on Android flagship.
Pixel 5 offers 12.2MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture and a 16MP secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The camera setup is supported with Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS and EIS, and 4K video recording capabilities. The selfie camera is 8MP and it is housed inside the punch-hole carved on the top left corner of the display.
The Pixel 5 packs a 4,080mAh battery with support for 18W fast-charging. It runs Android 11 and is IP68 certified which makes it dust and water-resistant to some extent and up to some level.
Pixel 4a 5G is clearly cannibalizing the Pixel 5 in many aspects, be it dual cameras or processor. But there are other sections as well, where it differs. There are some features and capabilities that the device falls short of. For instance, the Pixel 4a 5G does not include a 90Hz display and nor does it have Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. It rather has low-end qualities here to keep the overall price low.
The Pixel 4a 5G shares the same resolution as the new 5th-generation Pixel phone, though it has a little larger screen size – 6.2-inch, which is also larger than the Pixel 4a.
The new Pixel 4a 5G is powered b Snapdragon 765G processor and has dual camera system with a 12.2MP main lens and 16MP ultra-wide lens. There is an 8MP camera on the front that is housed inside a punch-hole. It packs a 3.5mm headphone jack, something which is missing from the Pixel 4a. The processor is accompanied by 6GB RAM and the phone packs 3,885mAh battery capacity.
The price of the Pixel 5 is $699 and the Pixel 4a 5G costs $499. Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 will be available in Japan on October 15 in the US and come to eight other countries - Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, United Kingdom, starting November. When you purchase a Pixel 4a 5G or Pixel 5, you will get Stadia and YouTube Premium trial fo 3 months, 100GB of storage with Google One for 3 months, and Google Play Pass and Gold/Silver Status on Play Points.
Pixel 5 comes in Black and Green color options, while the Pixel 4a 5G gets a single Black color option.
At last, Google provides a quick difference between its Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 phones.
