The original Google Home smart speaker has finally received its long-overdue successor. We are talking about the Nest Audio that has been unveiled alongside Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G, and Chromecast with Android TV. The new smart speaker builds upon the predecessor and makes relevant improvements as one would expect.
The team has focused on improving the audio quality so that it can also be used as a proper speaker meant for music fans. It now features a 19mm tweeter and a 75mm mid-woofer for significantly improved sound quality. The speaker is said to deliver a 50% stronger bass and 75% louder sound than the predecessor. The team also claims to have spent over 500 hours fine-tuning the speaker for ensuring balanced lows, mids, and highs.
It also has three far-field microphones so that it can listen to your voice commands clearly regardless of the direction you are speaking from. The speaker features a Fabric Cover made up of 70% recycled plastic. It also has four LEDs to help you be aware of when Google Assistant is listening and processing your voice commands. There is support for touch gestures where tapping on top plays/pauses music, tapping on the left reduces the volume, and tapping on the right increases the volume. There is a dedicated button for muting the speaker for times when you want to be sure that the Assistant is not listening to you.
The Nest Audio supports both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. There are five color options to choose from: Chalk, Charcoal, Sand, Sky, and the all-new Sage. The smart speaker has been priced at $99 with pre-orders live in the United States. It will go on sale in the U.S., Canada, and India from October 5th. An additional of 21 countries will be getting the smart speaker from October 15th.
