Microsoft has refreshed the Surface Pro X with a new SQ2 chip and a couple of upgrades. Microsoft first launched the Surface Pro X back in October last year and now we are seeing its upgrade coming after a year. Note that only the top-end SKU is getting the new SQ2 processor and the base variants will still feature the older SQ1 processor. So, Microsoft is giving you many options to choose from.
Apart from the introduction of the new SQ2 processor, the new Surface Pro X (2020) gets a new Platinum color option as well. Previously, it was available only in a matte black finish.
There is now a new Adreno 690 GPU as well, the frequency at which these GPU works is unknown but the Adreno 685 on SQ1-powered Surface Pro X has a 3GHz peak, so we expect it to be a little higher.
The new SQ2 processor has been designed in collaboration with Qualcomm and it is based on the company’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 platform. Microsoft claims its new SQ2 chip is the fastest and capable of offering better performance while consuming less battery. Microsoft has also made some enhancements to Windows on ARM which adds a boost to overall performance and battery life, across all Surface Pro X configurations (including the ones powered by Microsoft’s SQ1 chip).
The price of the Surface Pro X starts at $999.99, with the new SQ2-powered one costing $1,499.99.
Microsoft has also announced new accessories, including new keyboard colors for the Surface Pro X. These include Platinum, Ice Blue, and Poppy Red. There are also new Designer Compact keyboards with Bluetooth, offering two years of battery life, and three-device support, as well as matching number pads. Microsoft Modern Mobile Mouse also gets new sandstone color. Microsoft also is announcing the Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse, priced at $49.99.
There is also a new 4K Display Adapter from Microsoft, priced at $69..99.
